Social Norms in Practice

This short guide offers an example of a corrupt behavior driven by a social norm. It identifies the components of the norm and explains how the norm differs from other social dynamics. It follows upon our third Short Guide which explains how social norms are different from attitudes, behaviors, morals, conventions, and values, and why that matters to programming. Our second Short Guide, explores why integrating social norms into accountability, corruption, or integrity-related programming matters and highlights possible negative consequences of the failure to do so, and our first Short Guide, offers an overview of social norms and corruption.

Check out CJL’s Reference Guide: a comprehensive exploration of the role social norms play in endemic corruption in fragile states.”
